Under the authority of the Auditor General Act, the Auditor General conducts independent audits, reviews and special assignments that provide assurance, objective information, recommendations and advice to the Legislative Assembly, the Standing Committee on Public Accounts and, in certain circumstances, a Minister of the Crown. In doing so, the Office of the Auditor General promotes accountability and value for money in government operations and in the operations of recipients of government grants in the broader public sector. In addition, under the Government Advertising Act, 2004, the Auditor General is required to review specified types of government advertising to determine whether they meet the standards required by the Act.
