The Office of the Auditor General of Ontario is an independent office of the Legislative Assembly that conducts value-for-money and financial audits of the provincial government, its ministries and agencies. We also audit organizations in the broader public sector that receive provincial funding, such as hospitals and long-term-care homes, universities and colleges, and school boards. In 2019, our mandate was expanded to include reporting on the operation of the Environmental Bill of Rights, 1993, including reviews of any environmental matters our Office considers appropriate. Our work helps ensure that taxpayers receive value for their tax dollars.

Bonnie Lysyk (MBA, FCPA, FCA, LPA) is the Auditor General.

Auditor General’s Office Working Productively for Ontarians—May 7, 2020

We continue to work productively thanks to the co-operation of government ministries and agencies, which are doing their best to fulfill information requests for audits in progress, while ensuring their COVID-19–related work continues to be the priority.

Our Office already had the IT tools and technologies in place to efficiently work remotely. We remain in frequent contact with our co-workers, auditees and colleagues across Canada.

Our reception and public inquiry telephone lines are open and can be reached at (416) 327‑2381 and (416) 314‑5772, respectively.
